April 30, 2014 Update from the Bright Family

Dear Supporters, Friends and Prayer Warriors,
Larry was evaluated last Friday, and had a full day of rehab on Tuesday.  On Monday he spent between 3-4 hours in the x-ray department.  Per a phone call with the rehab doctor on Tuesday, he and the therapists thought when they had first evaluated Larry last Friday that he would only need a week or so of rehab.  But, today Larry did not do as well in PT or OT as he had last Friday.  The doctor is concerned with Larry’s white blood count again increasing.  Larry has no fever, and his other infection has been controlled with the antibiotic he is on, so the doctor is scheduling some additional tests to see if they can find the cause of the increase.  Meanwhile, he does not want Larry to have the 2nd stent procedure until the infection, if that is the reason for the increase, is under control.
Either due to the possible infection, or due to the many hours in rehab, Larry sleeps a lot.  In fact, he falls asleep sitting up as he eats.
This should come to no surprise to those of you that have followed the story from the beginning, but we are again on a roller coaster ride, albeit one with smaller hills, and hopefully with fewer drops.
Please continue to pray for Larry to regain strength each day, and wisdom for the doctors to find the cause of Larry’s latest increased white blood count.
Thank you,
Gerry for the Brights
PS  PTL, Larry is actually getting hungry, eating, and having less to no nausea.  The doctors have been tweaking his medicines and giving him a “GI cocktail” 1/2 hour before eating.  The cocktail consists of 3 medicines to decrease the nausea.  If he continues to be able to eat at least 1/2 of each meal, they will either be able to stop his tpn IV feeding, or only give him a partial tpn IV at night.

June 30, 2014 Update and Prayer Requests from Aholt Family

#1- Greetings from Steve and Sandy Aholt,

Steve went to the doctor this morning and had a mole checked on his back, because it has changed in size and color.  The doctor is very concerned and wants to remove a section today and send it for a biopsy.  He wants to remove a large section rather than just a biopsy.

Thank you for your prayers.  We will keep you updated on what we find out from the biopsy.  Steve will be having the surgery at 1PM today.

Giving thanks to our loving heavenly Father,

Steve and Sandy

#2 -Greetings from Steve and Sandy Aholt,

Thank you for your prayers.  God (Jehovah-Jireh) knows what we need, and provides.  Three of the teenage guys [Tony, Mackey and Rex], that Steve has been discipling, rode along with us to the doctor.  They waited outside with Sandy and prayed during the surgery.

God provided DR. Bud Morton who was competent to perform this surgery.  He said that the procedure went well.  The sample that he removed will be sent to Australia tomorrow for a biopsy.  It may take up to four weeks to get the results.  At this point in time, Steve has had no pain from the surgery.

On the way home from the surgery, we saw the Air Niugini flight, from Port Moresby, landing in Goroka.  We went to the airport to greet Jay and Jill Williamson.  They were arriving from the USA.

The Williamsons agreed to bring two small parts that we needed for the airplane.  We have the parts in hand.  The fuel gauge will replace a faulty gauge, tomorrow.  Then both fuel gauges will need to be calibrated.  The timing of this could only be orchestrated by God (Jehovah-Jireh).  Tomorrow is the only day available for New Tribes Mission Aviation mechanics to complete this job.

The inspection for a Certificate of Airworthiness will be sometime this week.  Please pray that this inspection will be completed easily for the new owners.

Listening for the trump and praying,

Steve and Sandy Aholt

Atheists File Lawsuit Against IRS

Atheists File Lawsuit Against IRS

Recently, the American Atheists and two other atheist groups filed a lawsuit against the IRS, claiming that tax requirements for nonprofit atheist groups are way more strenuous than those for religious nonprofit groups. The atheist organizations argued that churches and other religious organizations should have to meet the same requirements that other nonprofit organizations do such as disclosing information on their donors, employee salaries, and other details about the organization.  The organizations also claimed that the IRS is violating their First Amendment rights and the right to due process.

However on Monday, May 19, the United States District Court in Kentucky dismissed the lawsuit, claiming the atheists had no standing to present the lawsuit because they could have applied to the IRS to be recognized as a religious organization but they chose not to. The court said the atheist organizations assumed that they would be rejected; however, they never applied. In the past, the IRS has granted nonreligious groups status as a religious group.

“A review of case law establishes that the words ‘church,’ ‘religious organization,’ and ‘minister,’ do not necessarily require a theistic or deity-centered meaning,” the court wrote.

Despite the court’s decision, the atheists refuse to back down. “We’re going to keep fighting,” said American Atheists President David Silverman. “The court has upheld a prejudiced government practice.”

The organizations contended that the American government gives unfair lenient requirements to religious organizations and those organizations do not have to prove they do anything to benefit the American people. “That is special treatment that costs $71 billion in annual tax revenue,” the groups said.

More on Sudanese Woman and Death Sentence

Meriam Ibrahim, the Sudanese woman who is sentenced to death for refusing to convert to Islam, gave birth to a little girl on Tuesday in the hospital wing of the prison she is detained at.

Ibrahim’s sentence was given on May 15 after she was convicted of apostasy against Islam for professing to be a Christian. Judge Abbas Khalifa told Ibrahim, “We gave you three days to recant, but you insist on not returning to Islam. I sentence you to be hanged to death.”

Ibrahim declared before the court, “I am a Christian, and I will remain a Christian.” Ibrahim was eight months pregnant at the time of her sentence and has been in prison with her eighteen-month-old son since then.

The court also ruled that Ibrahim would receive 100 lashes after she gave birth for being married to a non-Muslim man. On Tuesday, Ibrahim gave birth to a healthy baby girl named Maya. Her husband was not allowed to see the baby or his wife. She is now awaiting her lashes. Ibrahim will nurse her child for two years then she will be hanged.

Senators Sue Obama Administration

Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson has filed a lawsuit against the Obama administration due to Obamacare. Johnson claims Obama’s decision to provide Members of Congress and their staff health insurance subsidies is “completely unfair and unjust.”

“The rule does not treat Members of Congress and their staffs like Members’ constituents,” said Johnson. “Instead, it puts them in a better position by providing them with a continuing tax-free subsidy from the federal government.”

So far 38 other Republican lawmakers including Ted Cruz and John McCain have co-signed the lawsuit. Also, many Democrats who first supported Obamacare have now turned against it.

Keith Fitz-Gerald, Chief Investment Strategist Director at Money Map Press, stated:

The American people have begun to find out firsthand why the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is maybe the worst pieces of legislation this country has ever had to swallow. And the real scary part is that the worst is yet to come. Obamacare adds $6.2 trillion to the deficit, trillions of dollars will soon vanish from the equity markets as insurance companies fight for survival, massive doctor shortages will create third-world level health care, geographic restrictions will make it impossible to sell your house, or travel on vacation.”

A recent research done by the Congressional Budget Office suggests that Obamacare will take more than 2.5 million full-time jobs out of the economy. ObamaCare has done and will continue to do more harm than good.

Dawkins is a “Secular Christian”?

While speaking at a literature festival in Whales, British atheist professor Richard Dawkins claimed that while he doesn’t believe in the supernatural aspects of Christianity, he would call himself a “secular Christian.”

“I would describe myself as a secular Christian in the same sense as secular Jews have a feeling for nostalgia and ceremonies,” Dawkins stated.

Dawkins is presenting the first volume of his books, An Appetite for Wonder, during the festival. While presenting the book, Dawkins repeatedly says “But I am a secular Christian, if you want to call me that.”

Last January, Dawkins described himself as a “cultural Anglican” during a debate with former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams on whether “religion has no place in the 21st Century.”

In the debate, Dawkins told the audience that his main concern was simply whether religion was true, and described religion as a “cop-out.”

Dawkins asserted:

“It is a betrayal of the intellect, a betrayal of all that’s best about what makes us human. It’s a phony substitute for an explanation, which seems to answer the question until you examine it and realize that it does no such thing… It peddles false explanations where real explanations could have been offered, false explanations that get in the way of the enterprise of discovering real explanations.”

Obviously, Dawkins is confused, and now everyone is confused about him. What does Dawkins believe? The fact is one cannot be an atheist and a Christian at the same time. Sadly, many people believe they can, and they are sorely mistaken. Either one believes in God and His Word completely or he doesn’t believe at all. There is one way to Heaven and only one way.
