FRC Tony Perkins Testifies before House Subcommittee
Meriam Ibrahim had been detained in a Sudanese prison for months with her 21-month-old son and newborn daughter. Her crime was supposedly converting from Islam to Christianity (she has claimed to have never been Muslim). After petitions to President Obama and signatures from thousands of Americans, Meriam was freed and arrived safely in Italy with her family.
The following is the testimony that Tony Perkins gave to the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations on July 23, 2014:
“We celebrate Meriam Ibrahim and her family’s escape to freedom. It is our hope and prayer that Meriam and her family will now enjoy the liberty to practice their Christian faith without government interference or persecution.
“Meriam’s bold stand for Jesus Christ as she faced death is both an inspiration for Christians to be courageous, but also a reminder of the vigilance required to preserve and promote not just our First Freedom as Americans, but the basic human right of the freedom of religion.
“We are grateful to several members of Congress on both sides of the aisle who have worked to secure Meriam’s freedom and facilitate her entry into the United States. Particular thanks to U.S. Reps. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), Chris Smith (R-N.J.), and House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), who were very instrumental in Meriam’s release.
“Additionally I want to applaud the efforts of other Members of Congress like Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), Frank Wolf (R-Va.) and Sens. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Mary Landrieu (D-La.) who were deeply involved in securing Meriam’s freedom. I also thank the European governments that worked to secure her release.
“The ordeal of Meriam and her family underscore the need for the Obama administration to make the promotion of religious freedom a priority at the State Department rather than an afterthought. The reality is that there are thousands of Meriams looking toward America, hoping they are not forgotten and that someone will speak out on their behalf.” (FRC.org, July 24, 2014)
Every American who is concerned about the privilege of religious liberty in the United States should be alarmed at the mentality of Islam to other religions, especially Christianity. Islam is made of radical members that worldwide total the population of the United States. These radicals hate the United States and Israel, and desire to destroy both nations by any means possible. We must be on the alert in this country and concerned about Christians in other countries who are enduring the tyranny of Islam’s enslaving faith.
Internal Revenue Preparing for More Church Investigations
The Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF) recently announced that the IRS will set up the procedures necessary to investigate “rogue political churches.” Now the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) is asking the IRS to reveal what these procedures are and how they (IRS) plan to determine which churches to investigate.
“So ADF asked for ‘all documents related to any existing, proposed, new, or adopted procedures for church tax inquiries or examinations from January 2009 to the present’ and well as documents relating to ‘Regulation 301.7611-1’ and those documents ‘referenced in FFRF’s July 17, 2014, press release.’” (WND.com, July 25, 2014)
The WND article continues:
“The IRS has suspended church investigations temporarily because of recent scandals in the last election. The IRS has been accused of targeting conservative churches and institutions in the past. The Alliance Defending Freedom is dedicated to holding the IRS accountable for its investigations.
“The anti-religion foundation mentioned ADF’s annual ‘Pulpit Freedom Sunday,’ an event to protest the Johnson Amendment, which ‘authorizes the IRS to regulate sermons and requires churches to give up their constitutionally protected freedom of speech in order to retain their tax-exempt status.’
“’The IRS cannot force churches to give up their precious constitutionally protected freedoms to receive a tax exemption,’ said ADF Senior Legal Counsel Erik Stanley, who heads Pulpit Freedom Sunday. ‘No one would suggest a pastor give up his church’s tax-exempt status if he wants to keep his constitutional protection against illegal search and seizure or cruel and unusual punishment. Likewise, no one should be asking him to do the same to be able to keep his constitutionally protected freedom of speech.’
Pulpit Freedom Sunday will be held Oct. 5 this year.”
It’s about time that conservative pastors not feel like they cannot pastor their churches in areas that involve government issues.
CNN News Blasted by Israeli Ambassador for Incomplete Reporting of Facts
Townhall.com reported on July 25, 2014, (about an interview that CNN did with Ron Dermer, Israeli Ambassador to the United States) that CNN is not reporting all of the facts about Israeli bombings on a UN school. While CNN shows the terrible photos of dead children and other civilians killed by Israeli bombs, that’s not all of the story.
Dermer said, “I’ve been listening for two hours of reports on CNN. I’ve seen split screens, horrible pictures, horrible pictures that any decent human being would be horrified by – I have not heard a single person say what I just said to you now. And, I think that that does a disservice to your viewers to not give them the context they need to make these judgments. Hamas is placing missile batteries in schools, in hospitals, in mosques – and there must be outrage by the world at Hamas to end this.”
While liberal media outlets try to paint Israel in the worst light, the facts about Islamic terrorists knowingly placing their own children at risk is uncivilized and barbaric. Dermer stated that Israel gave ample warning to get children out of the complex, but the warnings were ignored. The radical Muslims have no value of human life other than to sacrifice it for the destruction of their perverted ideology. Israel has no choice but to defend itself from these maniacs.
Missouri Church Cannot Honor National Guard
This just in from Foxnews.com (July 25, 2014). A local church in Carthage, Missouri, decided to honor protective agencies in its area during Vacation Bible School. On Monday, they honored the paramedics, and the paramedics came. On Tuesday, they honored the fire department, and the firemen came. On Wednesday, they honored the sheriff’s department, and the K9 unit came. On Thursday, they wanted to honor the local National Guard, but:
“We were told it was against military policy for National Guard troops to participate in Vacation Bible School,” Pastor Hogan said. “They said if the National Guard had assets on church property it would look like the National Guard is sponsoring the Baptist religion.”
Pastor Hogan was upset that the children in his church could not honor the National Guard. “We are right in the middle of the United States of America,” the pastor said. “We are part of the Bible Belt. You read about this stuff going on in big cities. But in Carthage?… They said they didn’t want to offend anybody. Well, it’s offended our whole church.”
Pastor Hogan was told this was a federal policy and that local guardsmen had no say-so in the matter. However, this past June “…the Department of Defense gave permission for a military color guard to march in Washington, DC’s gay pride parade. It marked the first time in history the U.S. Army Military District of Washington participated in the parade.
Thanks to the liberalization of America’s military, local National Guard Units are free to march in parades that honor perverted lifestyles, but they can’t appear on local church property when invited to show young people what it’s like to serve their country.
