July, 2017 Prettyman Update-Selah and Rose

Selah and Rose

We have been praying for four years that our little Selah Carmichael would come to know Christ.  Outside of mom and dad, Selah has been the most faithful in praying for her own salvation.  Every time she is asked to pray, she always prays, “Lord, please help me and Ezrah to understand how to be saved and to get saved soon.”  Well, the Lord heard her prayer!

My wife’s cleaning helper, Paska, is also rejoicing that her youngest sister, Rose, just got saved.  Rose responded this past Sunday about wanting to follow the Lord in baptism.  Looks like her and our Selah will get baptized soon!

We have just completed the very first (as far as we know) official evangelism tool in the Lugbara language!  We are very excited about how it will be used.  I’m confident that most of the dear people we are working with just need a simple tool that they feel they are able to use in sharing their faith.  Join us in prayer for God’s blessing on this little tool.  We are also going to be translating it in the Ma’di language and perhaps the other languages in the West Nile.  One of the nice features of the book is that even an illiterate person can use it simply by following the pictures and the associated truth.
Quickly, in closing, please pray about a decision we need to make concerning the church in Omoo.  We have been meeting on Friday’s for their weekly service.  We are praying about whether or not God wants us to take the step of beginning Sunday morning service.

We had a good time training Fred and Herbert last week.  The Lord really gave us a wonderful time of connecting with the people.  Many of them are saved, and we simply need to find out which ones and begin discipling them.  We are always…

Grateful for You,

Prettymans

July, 2017 Prettyman Update-Thank You For Praying

Thank You for Praying

I know many of you are praying.  We are seeing some breakthroughs with Patrick’s wife, Fosca.  Patrick told me after our second Bible study that she is beginning to see that there are two completely different paths.  Please keep praying.  I wish you could see the joy and expectation on Patrick’s face.

On Friday, a team of five went to Omoo for the service.  One of our goals was to begin training Fred and Herbert to minister to the children.  God gave us such a connection with the young ones!  I sense that He is knitting their little hearts with us.

We had a tremendous prayer meeting this morning.  For the third week in a row, we squeezed into the prayer room, and God met with us.  Thank you for praying for these meetings.  God is increasing prayer-hunger.

Last of all, we held our first soul-winning training this evening.  We had a good group of about 25.  During the last session, the heaven’s opened up and it began to rain cats and dogs.  That’s what it sounded like hitting the sheet metal roof.  We were forced to stop, because no one could hear anything but rain.  Silently, but in unison, a prayer meeting began.  During the prayer meeting, four teenagers stepped into our church to get out of the rain.  When the prayer meeting ended, one of our translators, Marchello and Pastor Morris spent over an hour sharing the Gospel with the young people and all of them turned to Christ for salvation!  Praise the Lord!!!

July, 2017 Prettyman Update-Key Prayer Requests

Serving Christ in the West Nile Region, Uganda

Prettyman Prayer Report

Thank you so much for all your prayer support and financial support. We are so indebted to you for making ministry for Christ possible in Uganda.  We are seeing people saved nearly every week, and having a wonderful time of training men for ministry.  Here are some vital updates and requests for prayer.

Key Prayer Requests

I have prayed much, asking God to show us the high priority items for prayer, and these are the ones that came to me. I pray you can sense just how vital your prayers are for these things.  Satan is carefully guarding some of these strongholds to prevent a breakthrough.

We have a very godly man in our church named Patrick.  He has grown so much that we feel he is a key leader for the future of this ministry.  His wife, however, is not saved and is a strong Catholic.  Their village is almost entirely Catholic, and they have really come up against Patrick.  I am going to his house on Thursdays to have a Bible study with him and her.  We even had about 10 youngsters from the village join the study last week.  It really will take a miracle to overcome the darkness and deceit she has embraced.  Will you go to prayer for her salvation?

Another key prayer request is for two young men, Fred and Herbert, that the Lord has burdened me to begin mentoring.  I will be taking them to the small village of Omoo on Fridays and teaching them how to minister to the young ones.  This really is the beginning of preparing them to be church planters.  Both of them have expressed a desire to plant churches and to be among the first students in our Bible college that we will begin in the near future.  I firmly believe that the Lord’s hand is on both of them, but the culture here is very hard for young men to resist temptation.  Please pray God’s hand of power upon these young men and that God would put the burden of church planting in their hearts.
We have been holding some very powerful prayer meetings among the workers here.  We want our band of workers to understand the centrality of prayer in God’s work.  We recently took the time to clean out an old storage room, put some paint on the walls, and make it feel like a place for intercession.  Last Saturday was our first prayer meeting there, and it was really wonderful.  Would you pray for God’s blessing on these meetings?  We desperately need the spirit of prayer and intercession to fall upon these workers.

Last of all, we are beginning soul- winning training on Saturdays.  For the next four weeks, we will be having 16 different sessions to teach them bit by bit how to be a fisher of men.  We will then begin going out together.  How desperate we are for God’s power to be on these training times!  Please join us in prayer for these vital things.
